It’s been a while since my last blog entry, but that’s because there have been other things to do — mostly good things! I’ve sent an EP off for mastering, which is my (loving) ‘goodbye to Brisbane’ kiss-off. I’ll be sharing it with you shortly. Mixing it myself was challenging, but I feel like the only way to get to where I want to be as a mixer is to keep pushing through and not dwelling too much on what’s already done. That way lies madness and bad mixes!
I’ve been wondering what to do next, and I think I’ve finally settled on a direction. I had a couple of albums planned, spread across three or four different projects… but I only have one working day a week to work on music. So, I’ve decided to just focus on recording a single solo album, taking the best tracks from the last 10 or so years that I haven’t released in some other form. After narrowing down the track list to 15 from a pretty big pool it’s looking exciting! So, there’s an EP coming soon, and I’ll spend the rest of the year working on an album to hopefully come out next year. I’ll try to mix it myself, but we’ll see how that goes…
In other music news, there's a new Hey Geronimo album brewing — we’ve got a new single almost done, and spent the last week reworking a song of Pete’s that was too downbeat for Content. Luckily, nothing is too downbeat for this new album! Hah. In all seriousness though, it’s going to be a real downer and I’m very much OK with that. The descent of Hey Geronimo from peppy 60s party band to dead-eyed 3am existentialism is something I feel at least somewhat personally responsible for, and fairly proud of.
